In the past, when there was no surgiform cartilage, cosmetic surgeons often used silicone material to lift the nose. When the surgiform cartilage does not adapt and becomes infected and must be removed, it is difficult for the doctor to do so because it has adhered to the structural skin tissue of the nose.
